Indochina Capital raises voice at The Economist Event 2016
Ho Chi Minh city, November 3rd, 2016 – Indochina Capital is proud to be presented at one of the most prestigious discussion arenas in the region, The Economist Vietnam Summit 2016, discussing various programs that need to be taken to secure Vietnam’s economic growth and to play up its strategic advantages and strengths. The Economist was hosted in Ho Chi Minh City gathering top opinion leaders from government, business and finance, civil society and academia.
Held at the InterContinental Asiana Saigon, the event brought together distinguished guests including Vietnam’s deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs Pham Binh Minh, deputy minister for foreign affairs Bui Thanh Son, the business community, and more than 230 participants from the public and private sectors, to discuss issues such as the effect of the slowdown in China and broader emerging markets on Vietnam’s economy.
Deputy prime minister Pham Binh Minh was the keynote speaker, sharing his perspective on Vietnam’s closer economic integration with the region and the globe. “We would like to promote trade liberalization through TPP because we believe it will open up the economies of Vietnam and all signatories”, he said. He also shared his perspective on the new growth model for Vietnam. “Maintaining the growth of previous years will be difficult and we will need a new growth model for Vietnam, aimed at driving quality of growth and competitiveness. Knowledge and technology will be the key factors in this.”
The Summit also discussed Vietnam’s challenges in navigating a complex geopolitical landscape, examining how the country’s evolving relationship with China will shape its future, recent political developments and how to attract investment to the country.
